Each Casita is in the style of a typical hamlet house. Whitewashed and terracotta tiled. They have good lighting and bathrooms and neat kitchens. The Casitas sleeping 4 have washing machines. They are furnished, where possible, with Spanish antiques and with original oil paintings.

The properties all have South facing terraces, which look down to the Mediterranean over Lake Viñuela, and the swimming pool which is in the gardens of the casitas. The setting of the hamlet is truly seductively romantic.

Casita Amarilla has one double bedded bedroom and one twin bedded room. The bathroom has a jacuzzi bath. The sitting/dining room is furnished with Spanish antiques and has some interesting large Spanish oil paintings. There are large double doors opening onto the south facing terrace which has table, chairs. The terrace is perfect for sitting out and enjoying the view and, at night, the moon coming up over the Sierra Tejeda. The terrace is under the terrace of the apartment above and has dappled sunlight, it is therefore ideal for those who like to look at the sun rather than be in it!

Location: El Cañuelo is a small hamlet of about 20 houses, roughly 15 km from Velez Malaga, it is 3km from Periana and 3kms from Ventas de Zafarraya. Set in the hills at a height of 850m it is just 3 kms from the province of Granada. The two towns mentioned have many bars and banks and small supermarkets and of course their own street markets once a week. The nearest beach is 20km away at Torre del Mar. The views are outstanding - on a clear day you can see the Rif mountains of Africa. There are many towns and villages to visit in the region.

General: We have been renting the six casitas in El Cañuelo for 12 years. El Cañuelo is a family run concern and many of our bookings are people who have returned year after year. Winter is very attractive here and skiing in the Sierra Nevada is only a couple of hours away. Spring brings carpets of flowers covering the hillsides between the almond and olive groves and is simply beautiful. In the high summer there are very happy groups of children who all enjoy the freedom of the area with no TV or computers to distract them! Autumn is pleasantly warm and a lovely time to be in El Cañuelo. The night sky throughout the year is stupendous. We are well positioned for visits to the cities of Malaga, Granada, Seville and Cordoba and of course all the small towns and villages en route. Many happy hours can be spent exploring. Countryside round El Cañuelo can be seen in a leisurely fashion by horseback. See our website.

Bar / Restaurant / Swimming Pool: There is a bar in El Cañuelo which serves all the usual drinks and meals at reasonable prices. The bar has spacious outdoor terracing with spectacular views. Indoors there is space for several tables and there are two fireplaces for winter use. The swimming pool, called locally the 'Mickey Mouse' because of its shape, is 7 x 7 metres with the two small 'ears' one with a depth of 90cms and the other about 15cm. The main pool is 2m at its deepest point. The bar has a quiet atmosphere generally with Spanish music being played. Quite often someone will pick up a guitar and give us a few songs. The Spanish love to sing their flamenco songs and locally we have quite a few good singers who drop in occasionally.

Locality: The nearest small towns to El Cañuelo are Periana and Ventas de Zafaraya. They both have small supermarkets and banks and a seemingly endless number of bars. We are under two hours journey from many interesting cities (e.g. Seville and Cordoba) and nearer to many small villages and points of interest. Malaga and Granada are just over an hour away and both are fascinating cities. Skiing is most enjoyable in the Sierra Nevada from December to April. Just 15km from El Cañuelo is the fabulous mountain town of Alhama de Granada, with small quaint bars and delightful eating places, in fact the tapas alone in Alhama are worth coming to Spain for! For those who like golf, the nearest course is in Velez Malaga.
