El CampelloEl Campello is a small quaint town that unlike surrounding resorts does not cater for mass tourism. This peaceful village is situated in the heart of the Costa Blanca between the city of Alicante and Benidorm. It has a wide sandy beach which stretches for miles, and an attractive fishing port as well as impressive mountain views. The town planners of El Campello have done a good job in maintaining the towns historical and individual aspect, while also making sure that visitors to the area are very well catered for. El Campello accommodation choices consist of apartments in the town centre, or townhouses and villas on the outskirts. Things to do and places to visit in El CampelloEl Campello is popular with sun worshippers who like a more quiet and relaxing day at the beach than can be found in Benidorm. Therefore, the beach is one of the first stops for many people on arriving in El Campello. If you fancy a stroll from your El Campello accommodation, you can wander up to the port area where you can see the remains of cabins that data back to around 3000 BC. There is also an interesting 16th century watchtower which was used as a warning tower against pirate raids. Around this ancient watchtower you will see some important archaeological sites which were founded by the Iberians around 5000 years ago. You can still see the Iberian circular buildings, and many pieces of crockery and weapons have been recovered along with graves that are well preserved. Spas built in the rocks by the Romans can still be seen and are in use today for fish farming. There is plenty to explore at the port which consists of a marina and a fish market. The fishermen of El Campello use the market to sell their catches to local restaurant and shop owners and housewives. However, in order to see the fish market in full action, you would need to be around at dawn when the fishermen return to the port. Although there are plenty of bars and restaurants in El Campello, if you want a really exciting time partying till the early hours you will find there is more to going on in nearby Alicante or Benidorm.
