Nerja was a Spanish fishing village, which over the last 20 years has grown into a wonderful holiday location, its growth has not spoilt the friendliness of the people. Whilst the inhabitants and the town have prospered Nerja offers a sophisticated and authentic environment, which reflects the Spanish way of life and excludes noisey club hunters and the holiday makers who want a beach front full of bars and English breakfasts. The bars and the good value for money restaurants and cafes are certainly there and probably a few clubs, but on the whole we have found an extremely friendly, safe and welcoming town. |

The Costa del Sol: Valparaiso is a great location for exploring the area. We fully recommend visiting Frigliana's Thursday market, this is the delightful white town nestling in the mountains, or a trip to the famous caves, ( there is a good bus service to do this if you haven't a car from the bus station). A trip to La Herundura for lunch on the beach is a contrast to Nerja and a wonderful drive through the coastal national park area. Or for a longer trip, drive over the mountains from Frigliana and come down to the coast at Torrox, we love the little restaurants on Torrox Playa, which is only 15 minutes drive along the coast from Nerja, where you'll find the most super and inxepensive, feet in the sand restaurants and excellent fish and sea food. Please, please, do visit our friends at the donkey sanctuary on the coast road going towards Torrox and take some carrots and apples. Nerja / Burriana Beach Area: There is plenty to do and see, or you can just relax. Nerjas beaches cover 16 kms and the main names are Burriana, where Valparaiso is, with the most restaurants and bars, then there is El Playazo, La Torrecilla, El Salon and several others. If you want to be active there is tennis locally, water sports and several golf courses. There is also horse riding and arranged walking days in the mountains. Nerja loves it's festivals, the most beautiful is San Idris, which is around May time, with a wonderful parade through the town to the caves, beautiful costumes and spanish horses and carts drawn by oxen. How to get there: Malaga Airport is 6km from Malaga City and 50km (45 minutes mainly down the motorway journey by car) and a very straightforward journey to Nerja. On leaving the airport keep in the right hand lane and take the E340 towards Motril, which will bring you to the Nerja exit, from there we will supply easy directions to find Valparaiso. There are frequent flights to Malaga, by scheduled and many budget airlines from all over the UK and Nerja is only 2 hours from the Sierra Nevada Europe's most southerly ski resort and a couple of hours drive to Granada. A car will certainly enhance your visit as there is so much to see and do, but it is not actually essential to enjoy Nerja and there are plenty of local companies who can organise trips to Grenada or Gibralter which is about 2 and a half hours drive away. Valparaiso: Within the Valparaiso development are many Spanish residents, the area is attractive and residential and is a mixture of mature villas and sensitively developed urbanisations. With the sea and beach 5 minutes walk away and the community of Burriana is well provided for with restaurants and bars, but does not impinge on the peace of area where Valparaiso is situated. There is a well stocked supermarket a few minutes walk away from the apartment and a much larger one, Super Sol, a national brand leader, only 2 minutes drive away. Family are now unable to use the apartment in September as originally planned and so special discounts are available on request. |
