The dome of Altea's church, is one of the symbolic images of the Costa Blanca. Where is Altea ? Located in the East of Spain ( Valencia Region ) within the province of Alicante on the Costa Blanca Nearest Airport Alicante - 45 mins drive - 68 km Nearest Beach Mascarat - 10 mins drive - 2 km Nearest Shops Mascarat - 10 mins drive - 2 km Nearest Motorway Junction 64 Altea - 15 mins drive - 4 km Nearest Train Station La Olla - 15 mins drive - 4 km Alternative Airport Valencia - 90 mins drive Our main town is the historic sea front town of Altea with its palm-lined promenade, small fishing harbour, and shops. Lots of parking here but busy. There are many restaurants along the front here but some of the best are in the old town. A walk up through narrow cobbled streets and steps between white washed houses will bring you to the main square at the top. Here you will be greeted with a wonderful church and views down the coast to Benidorm, or back to our mountain. The evenings here in the summer are bustling, with buskers surrounding the square where you can eat out at the many restaurants. There are artists and evening craft stalls in the summer too. If you can't make the walk up you can park around by the theatre and then its an easy flat walk into the square, but you will miss some of the cobbled streets. Tuesday morning is the vegetable market in town, with fresh fish in the covered market just around the corner, and the main market on the same day is down behind the football pitch by the river bed. It's huge. It only takes 4-5 minutes drive down to the village and there is plenty of parking up behind the bank. There is a 9 hole golf course nearby at Club Don Cayo. Two 18 hole Jack Nicklaus designed courses at the Real de Faula at the back of Benidorm. Easy to get to down the motorway but book ahead in high season. The main road through the village goes to the coast(4 minutes in car to L'Olla beach) or inland to Guadalest, one of the most visited places in the Costa Blanca. To get to the very top of Guadalest Village you have to go through the big house! On the way there it is worth visiting the Fonts D'Algar, a lovely waterfall. The Algar is the river that runs out to sea at Altea. Small streams from the surrounding mountains feed it, and in the winter, following heavy rain inland, a waterfall forms only 100 meters from the aàrtment, and runs down the ravine below us. This only happens once or twice a year, but is a wonderful surprise
